Tree Removal in Sleepy Hollow

Sleepy Hollow is an established residential neighborhood in east-central Amarillo, developed mainly in the 1950s and 1960s with ranch-style homes on modest lots. The neighborhood has a strong community identity and longtime residents who have maintained their properties for decades. Trees here are mature post-war plantings — mostly mulberry, cottonwood, and Chinese elm — and many are now at or past their natural lifespan.

A dead or leaning tree in Amarillo can come down fast when the spring thunderstorms roll through the Texas Panhandle. The hard, dry soil out here — especially in older neighborhoods like English Village and Wolflin — doesn't hold roots the way softer ground does, so trees that look stable can fail after a long dry spell followed by a hard rain. Cottonwoods, elms, and hackberries planted in the 1970s and 1980s are getting old, and a lot of them are starting to show it.

Out here the wind comes from the northwest with almost no warning, so we rig and lower branches in sections instead of letting anything fall free near a fence, roof, or power line.
