Tree Removal FAQ — Amarillo, TX
Answers to the most common questions about tree removal in Amarillo, TX. Don't see yours? Call us — we're happy to answer.
How much does tree removal cost in Amarillo?
There's no flat number that covers every job in Amarillo. A small dead hackberry in an open backyard costs less than a large cottonwood that's leaning over a house near Tascosa Road. The size of the tree, what's underneath it, and whether you want the stump ground out all affect the price. Call (806) 310-7795 for a free estimate.
How do I know if a tree in Amarillo actually needs to be removed?
Dead branches at the top, cracks running down the trunk, and roots lifting out of the ground are the main signs. Out here in the Panhandle, a long dry summer followed by a wet spring can weaken a tree fast, especially older cottonwoods and elms planted in the 1970s and 1980s. If the tree is within falling distance of your house, it's worth having someone look at it.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Amarillo, TX?
Most residential tree removal in Amarillo does not require a city permit. The main exception is if the tree is in the public right-of-way near the curb, which is technically city property. If you're not sure, we can tell you when we come out to look at the job.
What happens to the wood and debris after the tree comes down?
We cut everything into manageable sections, chip the smaller branches, and haul it all away. If you want the larger logs left for firewood, just say so before we start. The yard should look clean when we're done, not just cleared.
Is tree removal in Amarillo more dangerous near power lines?
Yes, and it takes more time and equipment to do it safely. The lines running behind houses in neighborhoods like English Village and Sleepy Hollow sit close to the trees in a lot of yards. We work around the lines — we don't touch them. If a line needs to be de-energized, that's Xcel Energy's job, not ours.
How long does tree removal take in Amarillo?
Most single-tree jobs take two to four hours from setup to cleanup. A large tree in a tight space near a structure can take a full day. The Panhandle wind is a real factor — if it's gusting above about 30 miles per hour, we'll reschedule rather than work unsafely.
